PLAYER VALUATION
PLAYER VALUATION
The tournament organizers intend to use a web-based process to conduct player valuations, directly after the status validation process, so that all team rosters are compliant with the principle that the tournament is meant for balanced game day matchups. Player valuations are assessed on a 3-point scale:
Grade C: Tertiary Talent when the player responsibly declares that he understands the rules of basketball, and how these pertain to tournament level play.
Grade B: Secondary Talent when tertiary level has been acquired, and in addition the player has been ranked in the top 20 (rank 1 thru 10 inclusive) of a statistical category in a previous tournament. This accolade can include stats for overall points scored, field goals made, three pointers made, total rebounds, total assists, total steals, total block shots and overall efficiency. If player stats are not available, Secondary Talent level can be assessed if the player has participated on the roster of a professional team (A1 or B1 in Cyprus Basketball Federation or foreign equivalent) in the past at any point as long as the participation was at an elite level (starting five or off-the-bench for substantial minutes).
Grade A: Primary Talent when secondary level has been acquired, and in addition the player has been awarded a Top 3 accolade, in any statistical category, of any previous tournament in the course of the past three (3) years.Â
Applicants are rejected who:
Refuse to sign the Tertiary Talent responsible declaration; or
Refuse the assessment process as a whole, for whatever reason.
Player valuation is a necessary step to provide a sense of balanced competition across the entire tournament and as such, player valuation is handled with secondary, but still a high level, of priority by the tournament organizers. This in turn means that a human-driven player assessment must be conducted on each applicant to assure that the value of each player is known to the tournament organizers, before the team rosters are formed by the team managers. The permitted ratio of each assessment grade within a roster is:
Grade C[4] : Grade B[2] : Grade A[1]
A team roster must have at least eight (8) players of assessed talent level Grade C in order for the roster control protocols to be met. Any less and the roster shall be rejected.
